53 years ago, the Rood family first drove into this beautiful valley. We passed turkeys walking down the road, and even with the uninvited rabbit floating in the basement of the log house, we immediately fell in love with this place we call home.

We lost LeRoy three years ago, but our family has grown since the day we first laid eyes on the farm with our three children, Michele, Michael, and Scott. Tammy and Beryl joined the family as partners to our sons, and Mike and Tammy have three wonderful daughters who are scattered about, but still call this their home. Jessica, our eldest granddaughter, is at Rice University in Houston working on her dissertation - she’s trying to catch up to her mom! Jenna is working as a RN in Dallas with her fiancé,  after Bryce (civil engineering) took a job there. Jill is in her second year at Jefferson College on a volleyball scholarship, keeping busy with practices and classes. In this crazy world, we are so blessed to have such thoughtful, talented girls to make this family so special. 

This has been a strange growing season, with a very wet spring and a very dry, hot summer. Mother Nature likes to give us farmers a challenge. The trees could definitely use a prolonged drink, even though most of them are under irrigation.

Hours & Happenings (At a Glance)
• Opening Weekend: the weekend before Thanksgiving (Nov 22, 2025)
• Open: every weekend until Christmas (Sat–Sun), plus Wed–Fri on weekdays
• Weekends: Santa to greet the kids, hayrides to the field, a food truck for a convenient meal, winery tastings, the Wurst Haus for sampling, our gift shop, and free hot chocolate for everyone
• Weekdays (Wed–Fri): choose a tree; we’ll shake and bale it; the gift shop is open; enjoy free hot chocolate by the fireplace

We have several fields available for selecting your Christmas tree this year, depending on what day you arrive (see Hours & Happenings above). Our gift shop will be brimming with lots of Christmas gift ideas, wreaths and greens, decorated containers, and arrangements! We can even custom-decorate a wreath for you to fit your personal style! Be sure to keep an eye on our social media for a handful of wreath decorating classes we plan to offer this year. 

The nursery part of the business is going well, offering many varieties of deciduous and evergreen trees. Taking care of several hundred acres of trees is a daunting task and a full-time job. You have to have a passion for this type of work—more of a lifestyle than a job!

We look forward to greeting all our long-time friends and customers, as well as some new faces. We hope this harvest is a happy one for us all, and we hope to help you make memories here at our farm!
